Since its inception in 2004, independent film development and production company, Skylight Films, has been on the fast track.
With a diverse collection of film projects; from family-adventure, to westerns to thrillers, Skylight Films has positioned itself to re-define the role of producer within the Canadian film/video industry. Through direct networking with broadcasters and state-of-the-art technical facilities, Skylight Films has proudly maintained complete control over their projects. As well, with this hands-on approach at every level, which includes marketing and promotion, Skylight Films has obtained an uncanny insight into industry trends.
In 2004, Skylight Films established itself on the cutting edge of High Definition filmmaking with the production of the romantic-comedy, "Love Wine", which was one of the first independent HD films broadcasted on HDNet Movies. Skylight was also featured in several HD magazines, discussing the excitement of this technology within the independent world of filmmaking.
In 2005, one of its debut productions, 'Dark Fields', was acquired for World Distribution by Lionsgate Entertainment and made its World Television Premiere on DirectTV in 2005 and was subsequently released nationwide on DVD, through every major outlet, including Blockbuster and Rogers. In 2006/2007, Skylight Films, in co-operation with Lee-Stathakis Productions, produced the action-drama ‘BLINDeye’ starring action-movie legends Roddy Piper and Nick Mancuso, which also resulted in a nationwide DVD release in May 2008 and a World Television Premiere broadcast on Super Channel in October of 2008. As well, Skylight Films, in co-operation with ArtistView Entertainment, has currently completed the family action-adventures ‘The Mystical Adventures of Billy Owens’, which was released internationally in April of 2008 and ‘Billy Owens and the Secret of the Runes’, to be released in January of 2009. Both films are scheduled for a nationwide DVD release in the summer of 2009.
Skylight Films enjoyed a banner year in 2008. With major releases on US pay per view, national distribution on home video, attendance at two major film markets (Los Angeles and Las Vegas) and two new family-adventure films (‘Ghost Trap’, ‘Home Alone on the Range’) in production through 2008, Skylight Films is enjoying its new status as an emerging independent film production company.
